Obituary

Clyde Cooper Jr, 78, of Virginia Beach, VA, fell asleep in death from complications of a stroke on July 15, 2023. Clyde, affectionately known as "Coop" was born on December 5, 1944, in Baltimore, MD. He was predeceased by his father Clyde Cooper, Sr, mother, Olivia Cooper Buck and younger brother, Danny Buck. Although born in Baltimore, Clyde grew up in Elm City, North Carolina.

After deciding to leave the south and live with relatives in New York City, in 1963, Clyde met the lovely Brenda Taylor in the Bronx. On December 9, 1966, Clyde and Brenda married and began their lives traveling as a military family. Their marriage produced three children. Clyde and Brenda were married for 56 yrs.

Clyde served in the United States Navy for 30 years retiring in 1994 as a Naval Warrant Officer 4. Prior to his retirement, Clyde started a second career in Real Estate, and became an award-winning Real Estate Broker for nearly 40 years. His professionalism and friendly nature garnered him respect from fellow Realtors not only in Hampton Roads, but across the country. Clyde spent 26 years with RE/MAX Alliance. He will be missed by everyone in the office.

Observing the fine Christian conduct of his wife and children for decades, Clyde decided to study the Bible in 1996, and on October 28, 1998, he symbolized his dedication by water baptism and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

On September 1, 2002, Clyde began the career that brought him the most fulfillment: serving zealously as a full-time minister of Jehovah's Witnesses or regular pioneer, which he did until his death. An example of his zeal was while he was recovering in the hospital from back surgery, Clyde joyfully went from room to room visiting fellow patients offering them encouragement with his signature greeting, "Hi, I'm Clyde Cooper." Clyde also had the privilege of serving as an elder in the Landstown Congregation in Virginia Beach and was much-loved.

Clyde was truly a family man. He loved his wife and children and their mates and was a fierce protector of them. He was extremely proud of his children and wanted everyone to know. Clyde would help his family in any way that he could, but to him, it was most important that he helped and encouraged them spiritually.

Known for his warm, funny, and friendly personality, Clyde loved people and people loved Clyde. He was an amazing and loyal friend and always made sure that everyone was okay. If he sensed that something was wrong, he would always have a listening ear and an encourage verse from God's word.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda D. Cooper, daughters Mia N. Lloyd (William) and Yasmin Camille Terrell (Harvey) and son Jason S. Cooper (Sharon), mother-in-law, Mary P. Taylor, sisters in law, Gloria J. Missouri, Janice E. Taylor and niece Taylor R. Missouri. Brothers Willie Cooper, Duvall Buck (Katrina), Sisters Gloria Buck, Denise Harris, Arlene Thompson (Byron) and a group of special individuals who he considered as daughters and sons, and his best buddies, Marion Daniely and Vernon Marble, and a host of nieces, nephews and spiritual brothers and sisters throughout the area that Clyde loved.

We will miss his warm friendly smile, hardy laugh, and great sense of humor. Clyde was a great husband, father, brother, and friend. We love you Clyde and eagerly await your return to paradise on earth. "Well done, good and faithful slave!" (Matthew 25:20-23)
