Mrs. Dorothy (Hoffler) Riddick, 90 of Virginia Beach, VA passed away peacefully Monday, September 29, 2025 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital. She was the wife of the late James E. Riddick, Jr.

Dorothy was born in Gates County, North Carolina on June 23, 1935, daughter of the late Alphears and Alice (Riddick) Hoffler. She was a member of the Kempsville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Dorothy was baptized in 1973.

Dorothy graduated from Buckland High School in Gates, North Carolina and attended the Norfolk Unit of Virginia State College (now University). Dorothy worked for U.S. Rubber division of Uniroyal Corp. Then changed careers and worked for The Waterbury Housing Authority as a bookkeeper until she retired in 1988.

Dorothy was known for her warm and loving smile. Her family, faith, ministry and love for
Jehovah were important to her. When asked, "How she was doing?" She would reply: "I'm enduring".

Dorothy is survived by sons James E. Riddick III and his wife Olilyeous of Waterbury,
Connecticut, Vincent Alphears Riddick and daughter Sharon Kaye Riddick of Virginia Beach, VA.

Two grandchildren Jermain Edward Taplin of Waterbury, CT. and Alyssa Frances Riddick of Virginia Beach, VA. Two great-grandchildren Adriana Marie Taplin of Waterbury, CT and Maximo James Riddick of Virginia Beach, VA.

Dorothy was predeceased by seven brothers Hyotha, Bartholomew (Sammy), Charlie, John, Graley, James, Clarence and six sisters Josephine Gary, Fannie Sue Norman, Rosa Eason, Marie Hunter, Gertrude Hoffler and Mae H. Peele. And many nieces and nephews.
