Obituary

Frank Sherman Black, Sr. came into the world on Jan. 27, 1932.  He passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2022.  Frank graduated from high school in 1949 and promptly joined the US Navy as an electrician.  He served in active duty for 22 years. Frank retired from the Navy in 1971 and worked for the State of Virginia with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Frank retired from the DMV after a 22-year career.

On May 10, 1952, Frank, known as 'Sherman' by his family and friends, married Kathleen Virginia Hayes, affectionately called Kitty, the love of his life, and began a most wonderful adventure that lasted seven decades.

Frank dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on February 14, 2004.  He was appointed a Ministerial Servant and continued to serve in that capacity until his death in January 2022.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen, as well as six children, Frank S. Black Jr. (Estelle); David D. Black (Laverne); Patricia K. Hooker (Bradford); Deborah A. Clark (William); Vannessa L. Carver (Kevin); Crystal M. Wortham (Paul).

Frank is also survived by his six grandchildren, Wander M. Bailey (Tate); Frank S. Black III; Candace L. Williams (Brian); William C. Clark; Raquel N. Hall (Tony); Stephen E. Carver.  And three great-grandchildren, Nelah, Samiah and Anthony.

Also survived by Sister-In-Law Josephine Black who was married to Marshall Black who preceded him in death.  Brother-In-Law Henry A. Hayes (Josie) as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
