Obituary

George A Scruggs Sr. fell asleep in death on Thursday December 11, 2025 at 83 years of age. George was born on February 16, 1942, and was the only child to Rufus and Helen Scruggs.

George is survived by his wife Joyce Bennett-Scruggs, his three children George A. Scruggs Jr. (Gail), Lesa L Banks, Katina L. Brown and Lola Clayton (Tony). Grandchildren Talisha and Aleza Scruggs, Dyon Banks Jr and Taylor Banks. Salina, Lessie and Parrish Armstrong. He had 14 great grandchildren, Dominique Thompson Jr, Joel and Josiah Scruggs, Milan Evans, Aadya Banks, Nia-Marie and Johnathan Gibson, Sydney and Brooke Clayton, Michael Madison, Sabrina Hawkins and Kyro and Krue Armstrong.

Remembering George will not be hard. He was a loving husband, father and provider. George retired from Ford Motor Company after many years of service. One of his greatest accomplishments was serving Jehovah for the last 30 years. There are so many memories to share, and stories told about experiences that various ones had of George. If you ever needed to smile, he would always greet you with one. He always had something encouraging to say. Everyone described him as being a humble man. Food was his passion, he loved to cook, you would never be disappointed in the taste department. George always had a jovial laugh especially when playing cards. His laugh was infectious if he was winning. Those in field service with him remember on those hot days that you could always get a cold drink from his cooler. If you ever wanted to know how George was doing, he always had a saying. "I'm like a bear, making a lot of tracks, ain't getting nowhere" and we would ask him what does that even mean?  When you heard one of those responses, we all knew he was doing ok. George and Lady J shared 10 years together in service and traveling. George was in good spirits right down to the end. George will truly be missed.

We would like to thank all the friends and life-long friends who loved and cherished him with their loving words and encouragement. We also would like to thank Saber Nursing & Rehab and Commonwealth Health and PG Thomasson Funeral Services for the loving care they showed.

We look intently to Jehovah's promise at John 5:28,29 where we are told, ""Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out."  With full confidence will see him again, and in George's voice we can hear him say, "it's just over the horizon…. "Toodles" until then.
