Obituary

Gerardo Gonzalez Torres, affectionately known as Jerry or Mr. G, was born on May 10, 1957, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Gerardo Gonzalez Marreo and Felicita Torres. He discovered Jehovah as a teenager and devoted his life to Him, getting baptized on July 14, 1974.

From 1985 to 1991, Jerry served in the US Coast Guard as a Yeoman, residing in Yorktown and Newport News, where he accumulated numerous tales of his adventures. He also spent many years working for Social Security.

His most cherished role was serving as a ministerial servant in the Spanish congregation. Known as Bro. G, he was dearly beloved, especially by friends such as Genardo Rivera, Wilmer and Norma Cordova, and Jose Ramos, who frequently visited, brought food, and helped care for his home.

Jerry loved dancing and was the heart of any party! He DJed at gatherings of the Spanish congregation, ensuring friends stayed on the dance floor. He had a passion for music and was skilled at playing the guitar.

Jerry taught Spanish, and it was during his classes that Jackie joined as a student. Their connection grew, leading to their marriage on October 6, 2001.

His travels with Jackie were always referred to as adventures, taking them to concerts, festivals, and cultural events. Jackie always had something ready because Jerry's friends often dropped by to visit, play pool, or work on cars, a testament to his hospitality.  Bro. G was truly one of a kind, deeply loving his friends.

Sadly, Jerry passed away peacefully from complications related to Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, with his wife Jackie by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jackie, siblings Gerito Gonzalez, Edgar Gonzalez, Maritsa Gonzalez, daughters Jessica and Natania, their mother Carmen Sandovale, Ginny Gonzalez and daughter Alicia, grandchildren Ayanna and Kaya, stepson Charles Thomas, brother-in-law Roger Graham, spiritual children Wilmer and Norma Cordova, and many other friends and family who will dearly miss him.

Special thanks are extended to Kendra Branch, Kristi Beers, Romona Anderson, and the staff of Amedisys for their exceptional and compassionate care.
