Obituary

Helen Yolande Wells, 77, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, on
Wednesday, June 9,2021. She was born on January 17, 1944, to the late Wallidad Khan and Dulcie
(Ghany) Khan, in Port-of-Spain Trinidad, West Indies. Helen was the fifth of nine children. Besides her
parents, she was predeceased by a brother and sister, Reginald Khan and Leticia Jones.

Helen earned a scholarship which enabled her to attend Bishop Anstey High School from which she
graduated. She took Spanish and French for four years, and two years of Latin. In February 1963, she
came in as runner-up for Carnival Queen in Port-O-Spain Trinadad, which took place yearly. She met
her "sweet heart" Charles Wells Sr. through her sister's husband (who invited Chuck to attend her
parent's anniversary party.) Chuck said: "For me, it was love at first sight!" Upon his return from
Vietnam, they were married on June 29 th , 1967, in Mapleton Maine. Born from their union were two
children, Wendy Wells and Charles Wells Jr. As a military wife, Helen and her children were able to
see many countries, where having learned French and Spanish came in handy for her.

Helen held various positions working at the Navy Exchange in Guantanamo Bay, California, Great
Lakes and finally, when the family settled in Virginia Beach in 1982, Helen worked for the Navy
Exchange in Little Creek, then called the Amphibious Base. She also worked for Sears, where she
worked in Ladies apparel.

Helen loved gardening, she had a green thumb for growing beautiful flowers and plants, especially,
calla lilies, tulips and roses. She was an excellent cook as well. She was especially known to many for
her pigeon peas and rice and her empanadas. Those who had the privilege of trying them, couldn't get
enough of them! Helen loved fishing too!

Sis. Helen Wells began learning about Jehovah at age 4 when her mother became one of Jehovah's
Witnesses. She made the truth her own when she began studying the Bible in early 1993. Sister Wells
made her dedication to Jehovah and symbolized it by water immersion December 31st 1994, in
Portsmouth, Virginia. From that time forward, Sis. Wells proved to be a very zealous Kingdom
Proclaimer. Although she was a mild, quiet soul and extremely shy, she made it a habit of going out into
the ministry, which in time, helped her to over come her shyness. Thereby, she developed boldness
when it came to sharing her beliefs with others.

Sis. Wells loved the ministry. Her husband Chuck said: "Helen lived for the Ministry, on an average
she would
go out 5 to 6 days a week. Yet, she never neglected her responsibilities at home. " Her
daughter Wendy said: "She loved the Truth. She never missed an opportunity to do informal
witnessing.
" If there was anything Helen enjoyed more (in addition to her family), it was sharing her
deep love for Jehovah and his Word, with others. When Sis. Wells became ill, she still made every
effort to attend her meetings. The meetings were always her priority. She believed in Jehovah's
promises and kept them close to her heart. It gave her much comfort during her illness, knowing that
she would be in Jehovah's memory and that the time would come when our King Jesus Christ, would
call, and those in Jehovah's memory would answer. Sis. Wells truly "endured to the end." _(Matthew 24:13).

Left to cherish her memory is her "sweet heart" of 55 years, Charles Wells Sr., her daughter Wendy Wells, her son, Charles Wells Jr. (both of Virginia Beach), her four beautiful granddaughters who she adored: Catherine Anne, Kirsten Marie, Leah Nicole and Samantha Lynne. One handsome great- grandson, Matthew Lee. She is also survived by her five sisters: Evangeline (Francesco) Segreto, Claudia Khan, Ziska (William) Stark, Franka (Frank) Varney, Paula (John) Krug, one brother David Khan. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
