On Thursday, October 18, 2018, our all-wise God called our loving son, brother, grandson, fiancé, uncle, godfather, and friend, JAMAL RA'SHON GRIFFIN home to his eternal rest.

Jamel was born on October 1, 1993 in Portsmouth, VA, where he attended Portsmouth Public School systems and earned his G.E.D. from Woodrow Wilson High School in 2010.

Jamel also affectionately known as "Shon" to family and friends was a very thoughtful, full of humor and caring person.  When you saw Shon, the first thing you noticed was his smile…the next thing…was his greeting you with a big ole hug and a joke.  He had a huge love for animals and humans.  Shon just had a way with people.  No one was a stranger to him.  He knew how to make you laugh when you didn't want to.  He knew what to say and when to say it…even if you didn't want to hear it.  He was helpful and would go out of his way to help others, even if it meant putting himself in danger.  Jamel Ra'Shon Griffin left this place in peace and will be truly missed by many.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, James Ruth.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Jamie and J'Mal Jones; fiancé, Brittany Merritt; two sisters, Markee'sha Skinner and Devin Johnson; five brothers, Mark Griffin, Andrew Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Devale Rivers, Jr. and Jonovan Johnson; maternal grandmother, Minister Jean Ellis; paternal grandparents, Clarice Gregory and Keith Riddick; his biological father, Devale Rivers; four nieces, Brianna Skinner, Malani Griffin, Dakyah Johnson and Kennedy Russell; two nephews, Mason Griffin and Jordan Johnson; godsister, Destiny Morgan; three godchildren, Ny'Asia Robertson, Ny'Onna Robertson, Sereniti Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
