Jim Petty, Sr. was the son of the late Leroy Wilson and Beulah Ferguson.  He was born November 22, 1956 in Danville, VA.  He went to school in Danville and graduated from Flatwood Job Corps in Cobern, VA with a GED and a certificate as a heavy equipment operator.

He moved to Suffolk, VA where he married the love of his life, Sarah Parker, on September 6, 1991.

Jim loved fishing along with Sarah. He also loved gardening and landscaping which was his profession for 40 years.

He is preceded in death by his son Jim Petty, Jr. and his sisters Vivian Petty-McCain and Betty Petty-Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah and daughter Christy Fields (Jermaine), Grandchildren Treavor, Tierre, Brittnay, Keshawn, and Jayla, Brothers David Petty (Norma), Larry Petty and John Petty. Sisters Sally Royal Wiles (Clarence), and Virginia Rucker.  Also a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  A special thanks to Ella Boone and niece/caregiver Samone Parker. Also a special thanks to his faithful employers Mr. & Mrs. Darden, Mr. & Mrs. Saunders, Mr. & Mrs. Quayle and Mr. & Mrs. Godwin.
