John Theodore Viola, 74, passed away on August 2, 2021. John was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 24, 1946 to John and Stefania Viola.
John was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church and served faithfully throughout his life.
John graduated from High School in Jersey City where we participated in all of the High School activities and played both trumpet and drums in the High School Band.
John was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Basilone, DD824 at the time of his discharge. John served on the Basilone as the Fleet Rehabilitation and Modernization (FRAM I) overhaul was completed at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and the subsequent shakedown cruise and training at Newport, Rhode Island and Norfolk, Virginia.
After his Navy career John was active in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters while working at Cooper-Jarrett, Inc. John served as the Teamsters Shop Steward while working on a major pipeline project.
John served as a patient advocate at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home in Paramus, New Jersey.
John also served in various charitable and military advocate organizations, and was a life member of both the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization and the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association (EPVA).
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stefania, and two brothers Steven and Teddy. John is survived by two children from a previous marriage, John Jr. and Edward; a sister, Mary Ann Diette; and his current spouse Esther.
