Joshua Lee Jones was born June 25, 1934 to the late Cornelius and Malvina Jones in Tarboro, North Carolina. To this union he was the 9 th of 9 children. In 1953 he graduated from W.C. Chance High School in Parmale, North Carolina.
Soon After graduation he joined the United States Army where he served his country valiantly for 4 years and had an honorable discharge.
After Leaving the United States Army he relocated to New York City and resided with his loving brother the late Willie C. Jones and his family. Joshua worked a variety of jobs all of which exemplified his passion for helping people, Horn and Harding Luncheonette, Manhattan Psychiatric Center and finally a career he loved with New York Transit Authority which he began on January 22, 1960 as a trusted Bus Driver. He served the people of New York well during his lustrous career of 30 years. Joshua was recognized by his superiors for his excellent work ethic, ability of effectively manage people, and nearly a perfect attendance record and was awarded many citations, certificates and acknowledgements for his exemplary career. Joshua retired from New York City Transit on December 29, 1989 as a Senior Dispatcher and Training Instructor for the Department of Busses.
In 1957 he met and was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life for 51 years the late Francine Jones. Joshua lived a busy life but always found time to share his rich experiences and wonderful blessings with his friends and family. He was a champion of family values and worked diligently to usher and mentor family and friends into careers with New York City Transit Authority. He was always available to help and always did with a smile. He served one the Jones Knight Family Reunion committee in New York City and Virginia and made every effort to ensure his family attended as many reunions as possible. He was a member of the New York Exchange Club and enjoyed many events with the group.
Joshua was a devoted Christian who served God and was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He also studied under Jehovah's Witnesses as he loved the Lord and had an insatiable thirst to learn more and share with others.
He was a member of the Lebanon Lodge #54 in Jamaica, New York. During his tenure with the Lebanon Lodge he held various positions including Worship Master. He was a member of the New York Exchange in Virginia Beach, VA.
Joshua and the late Francine Jones with much pride purchased their first home in 1961 in Cambria Heights, Queens where they lived for 34 years and raised 5 children. Their home was full of love, family and friends where all were welcome. Their doors were never locked and their home was the site for many family celebrations. In 1995 they relocated to Virginia Beach, VA where they enjoyed their retirement years.

Grandchildren Katrina Douthit, Chicago, IL, Daniela Jones, New York City, Adriana Burgos Virginia Beach, VA, Dealza Lewis, Chicago, IL, Malcolm Baker, Yonkers, NY, Claude Minor, Plattsburg, NY, Jazmyne Christina Francine Jones, Virginia Beach, VA, Private Jerard Christopher Joshua Jones, Virginia Beach, VA, Devon Watts, Brooklyn, NY, Justin Jones-Cummings, Suffolk, VA, Amber Wood, Rosedale, NY, Joshua Jones, 3 rd , Rosedale, NY, Bianca Jones, Rosedale, NY, and Jayden Jones of Portsmouth, VA. Great Grandchildren Giovanni Burgos and Jeremiah Morlett, Virginia Beach, VA. His surviving siblings Joseph C. Jones (Mary), Virginia Beach, VA and Ethel Miller (Reverend James), Jamaica, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
