Obituary

Julia Rebecca Wood, age 70, of Virginia Beach entered into eternal peace on Friday, February 13, 2015. She was born on November 3, 1944 in South Norfolk, Virginia to the late James and Ruth Brown Joyner. She attended George Washington Carver High School, earned her GED from Norfolk Vocational Center and an Associate Degree from Kee Business College. She retired from Cox Communications as an Inventory Control Clerk after 19 years of service. Although she retired, she only stayed home a few years before returning to work as the Office Manager at the law firm of Bullock & Cooper, P.C. which was owned by her twin daughters. She was a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church where she served as a missionary and was a member of the Golden Age. She was also a member of the United Order of Tents, Emma Laura Tent #536 where she served as the secretary and the Grand Court Order of Calanthe. Family and friends were Julia's passion and delight. She loved to host a seafood feast for Christmas, entertain and most importantly serve others. She was an avid spade and bid whist card player and often could be found playing board games with her many loving grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "MeeMaw" by her grandchildren and "Nanny" by her family. Julia is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Wood, Jr. and brother Horace (Cookie) Joyner. She leaves to cherish her memories four children; Lisa Gibson, Wayne Jones (Tamika), Wanda Cooper (James) and Tanya Bullock (Sean), twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a sister, Ruth Denkins, a brother, James Joyner, Jr. (Jessie) a very special cousin Alma Johnson and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
