Leroy Beck, Jr., a devoted Jehovah's Witness, husband, father, grandfather, and friend died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born to Leroy Beck, Sr., and Doris Jacqueline Beck and had three siblings Diane, Dewayne, and Dennis who are resting in peace.
"Butch" as he was affectionately known, was truly loved by all who knew him. He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from the Philadelphia Public School System. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and retired after 30 years of service as a Master Chief Aviation Ordinance man (handled bombs for the aircraft). He was a Vietnam Veteran. During his years of service, he traveled all over the world on different ships and air stations. He received several commendations: Medal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4), NATO Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksman Rifle Ribbon, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Medal. Following his military service, he worked for the Office of Personnel Management Civil Service – NAS Oceana Air Operations, Paint and Corrosion Facility for 13 years.
On August 15, 2015, he was baptized at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia and dedicated his life to Jehovah and his faith never wavered. He enjoyed talking to others about his Bible-based beliefs. He was a member of the Salem Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Virginia Beach, VA.
Leroy loved his family, friends, and neighbors. Moreover, he enjoyed working in the yard, home improvements, yard and flea-marketing, cooking, catering to the natures of life (God's creatures), talking to his grandchildren, and loving his wife.
