Patricia Sue (Arnett) Sterling, 86, passed away on Friday January 3, 2025 at Chesapeake Memorial Hospital in Chesapeake, Virginia. Mrs. Sterling suffered from dementia for many years and during this time, she was cared for by her loving Sister Katherine Burnell, of the home and later Ms. Claudine Phipps from Hand n' Heart.
Mrs. Sterling was born August 20, 1938 in Beverly, West Virginia to The late Myrtle Loretta (Howell) Arnett and Kelvin Hood Arnett. Mrs. Sterling was predeceased by her husband Charles Sterling, whom she married on September 5, 1987.
Mrs. Sterling was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family. She had a short career modeling. She was a foster mother for many years. Mrs. Sterling was an excellent seamstress and made many clothes for her family. She loved homemaking and decorating her home. She was an excellent cook. She was always ready with a smile, a hug or a kiss. She was compassionate and caring. She spent many happy hours in her beautiful backyard filled with flowers and birds.
Mr. and Mrs. Sterling loved going dancing and spending time sailing in their boat. They entertained all the family for the holidays.
Mrs. Sterling accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was 9 years old at a church camp she attended. She never waivered in her faith and looked forward to eternity in Heaven with her family members who predeceased her. Mrs. Sterling was an avid reader and most of the books in her local library.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Charlotte Johnston, and Joan Arnett, her Brother Joseph Wallace and her granddaughter Jamie Lynn McLeod.
Mrs. Sterling is survived by three children, Brenda (Randy) Yates, of Morrisville, N.C. , Berry (Seo Young) Henderson, of Pyeongtaek, South Korea and Aaron (Beth) Henderson, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., two Sisters, Katherine Burnell and Janet (Andy) Shingledecker, both of Virginia Beach, Va., six Grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Woodlawn Memorial Garden, Norfolk, Va.
