Obituary

Rosa Mae Willis Douglas was born on December 01, 1929 in Beaumont, TX to father D.A. Willis and mother Grace Ella Reasoner. After a battle with cancer, Rosa Mae Douglas passed away peacefully on October 16th, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA at the age of 84. She is survived by her sons, D.A. Highsmith (wife Marilyn and daughters Kimberly and Janine, and granddaughter Kaela), Tim Douglas (wife Nancy and child Bella Rose), Mike Douglas (Lori and children Stephanie (husband Doug) and Benjamin (wife Maria and children Jaden, Liam, and Demi), her daughter, Wanda Jean Highsmith (son James Paxton), and her Aunt Muriel Leflett (and family). She also has an extensive family of cousins, nieces, and nephews in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Namely families Highsmith, Reasoner, Willis, Tuttle, Haynes, DiGiovanni, Lukenbill, Knoerr, and Carpenter. (Any omissions are unintentional.) She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Juanita and Margaret and brothers Stafford and Gene. Rosa studied Nursing at Carl Sandburg College and was a home caregiver to many people before she retired. She had a love of dogs, fishing, crafting, reading James Patterson novels and The Bible, shopping, computer Mahjong and Facebook. When diagnosed with breast cancer in Jan. 2013, she remained strong in her will to fight her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months when the cancer had spread. Rosa requested to be cremated. A private family reception will be at P.G. Thomasson Funeral Services. Her wishes were for her immediate family and friends of Luther Manor to hold a celebration of life which is to be held Sunday October 19th, 2014 at 3 p.m. The family would especially like to thank her Minister Stan Paradowski and wife Margaret of Princess Anne Church of Christ and her close Luther Manor circle of friends, for their care, friendship and attention through the years. Also the doctors and staff of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for their constant, attentive treatment these past few months; and the P.G. Thomasson Funeral Services, for making the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send donations, in her memoriam, to her church, Princess Anne Church of Christ, at 3016 Virginia Beach Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA 23452 http://www.princessannecofc.org or The National Breast Cancer Foundation https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-donations
