Obituary

Tamara Rochelle Dant was born July 14, 2002, at Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia to Tysa Dant Alexander and Charles E. Whitfield, Sr. Tamara, affectionately known to her family and close friends as "Tam Tam", "Beanie" and "Talls" was the youngest of four children and an only-sister to her older brothers Demetrius, Marcus, and Travis Alexander.

Tamara lived in Virginia Beach until 2009. She then relocated with her mother to Hunnewell, Missouri for five years and lived in Quincy, Illinois for three years. While living in the Midwest she learned how to play piano, she also took ballet, tap dancing and jazz lessons. Tamara also enjoyed riding horses at the family farm "Dant Green Acres", roller skating and spending time with friends and family. Until her heart condition worsened, she played basketball, soccer, and volleyball where she enjoyed competing with her peers.

In 2017, Tamara and her mother moved back to Virginia Beach, VA where she attended Bayside High for one year before attending and graduating from Cox High School in 2020 with her high school diploma.

After graduating high school, she attended Tidewater Community College where she planned to major in nursing with dreams of becoming a nurse practitioner, with a focus in Midwifery. While attending college, Tamara worked for Hardees, Dunkin' Donuts and Lagerheads at the Oceanfront Hilton Garden Inn in Virginia Beach.

On February 4, 2022, Tamara was admitted to the hospital in Virginia Beach due to complications from Covid. She was then transported to Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk. While there, she underwent numerous heart procedures with the goal of receiving a heart transplant in the very near future. After putting up a strong fight, she ultimately succumbed to heart failure and passed away on March 8, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Tamara was born with a very rare heart disease called Tetralogy of Fallot, caused by a combination of four heart defects that are present at birth. This disease affects fewer than 20,000 people per year in the United States. To find out more information please visit: Tetralogy of Fallot foundation.

Tamara was always happy, and her presence brought joy to whomever she was around. She was a positive reinforcement and a moral compass for her crew and always kept a smile on everyone's face. To know Tamara was to know love in its most genuine form.
