Vivian Mae Armwood Barnes was born on January 4, 1919 at Freedmen's Hospital Washington, D.C. She was raised by Her grandmother who she affectionately called Mama in Arlington, VA and attended school there.

Vivian accepted Jesus Christ early in her life and attended for many years The Church of God Which Jesus Purchased With His Own Blood under the leadership of the late Pastor Lydia Barnes ( no relations ). She loved testifying and praising the Lord.

Vivian had a humble and quiet spirit, enjoyed visiting neighbors and going on outings. She was a loving and devoted mother and had a special love for her grandchildren. When her memory was superb she knew all of their birthdays.

Vivian in her younger years enjoyed playing the games of horseshoes and dominoes. Later in life she fell in love with bingo. Vivian loved reading the Bible and Readers digest. She contributed her longevity to God's grace and mercy and eating plenty of oatmeal. Her favorite song was 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'.

Vivian was preceded in death by her grandmother Maude Armwood; son Carroll Eugene Barnes, grandson Anthony Monk, and two great grandsons Duane Penny and Lamont Penny. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Samuel Penny ( Sonja ); two daughters Charlotte Marie Barnes and Chistine Penny-Allen; grandchildren Willette Monk, Vivian Wise, Victor Jackson, Melissa Penny, Darnell Penny (Jennifer), Tasha Penny, Johnathan Rahman Ali  Barnes, Carma Jenson-Barnes, Shana Jenson-Barnes, Wesley Allen, Guelda Allen-Cereda (Damiano), Glen Allen, Karsten Allen; 22 great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; 1 great- great-great grandchild; and God-Daughter Delsie Jones; and many friends and associates.
